The Culture of Racism: Novel Approaches for Measuring and Assessing the Effects of Racism on Health
Dr. Courtney Cogburn, Assistant Professor of Social Work Columbia University
Dr. Cogburn will discuss three on-going projects focused on 1) conceptualizing cultural and media-based racism, 2) effects media-based racism on acute physiological, emotional and behavioral stress responses and 3) effects of immersion in a virtual reality experience of racism on empathy, structural awareness and behavior. Dr. Cogburn will provide a brief overview of each of these projects to prompt discussion about modern racism and methodological innovation.
